HUSKY SLED RIDE   Meet the Kilpisjärvi Husky Team! Siberian huskies are friendly and they just adore pulling a sled – that’s their hobby and that’s their work!

You and your party can now learn how to be a ”musher”. Meet your guide Martti, the owner of the husky team, on the lakeshore and get introduced. Martti will teach you how to drive the team – and before you know it you’ll be off, heading towards the Swedish shore. The others in your party will follow you, seated in the guide’s snowmobile sledge. You’ll be on your own with the huskies, each person taking his or her turn as the musher. A child can be seated in the sledge while the parent drives. At the turn-around point a break is taken and you’ll have a chance to get acquainted with each husky – they are so eager at the start that longer introductions are not possible. A hot berry juice is served during the break.

SEARCHING FOR AURORA BOREALIS  There’s no better place to chase the northern lights than Kilpisjärvi, and we’re out there on most nights looking for them. It’s just like magic to see the Aurora dance across the sky.

Transfer from the village in the evening by snowmobile sleigh, sitting comfortably on reindeer skins, wrapped in blankets. The trip takes you to an open lean-to or a hut where the guide builds a fire and serves you coffee. Look up towards the skies and watch out! Open views, the distance from the village lights and the sheltered location give you a fine chance to view the Aurora. Statistically you’re in the right place: Kilpisjärvi boasts more frequent and greater northern lights than any other place in Finland.
